Diego Costa: Forget The Drama, He’s Suarez Class

Dirty Diego...always getting into the tick of things.

In life, it’s hard to ignore a bad attitude. Possible but hard, because it blinds people from seeing the true good qualities one probably has. You’ll think I’m about to talk about Balotelli, but he wishes. This is about one of the best strikers in the world, Diego Costa.

As far as football is concerned, Chelsea did very good business when they bought him. A natural 9, who’s quick on and off the ball, can dribble, is good in the air, he scores incredible goals (like there are non-incredible ones) and always puts up a fight (too literally) for his team. He’s a player that is always hungry to be on the pitch, even though sometimes it’s for the wrong reasons.

He has an attitude that most people who aren’t Chelsea fans dislike. He’s too aggressive, always trying to get unsolicited attention from the referee, committing defenders into making errors etc. Basically he’s seen as a bully in the beautiful game but people hardly see him in the class he belongs; up there with the likes of Suarez, Aguero and Lewandowski.

Costa’s Style

Diego (Yeah, we on a first name basis), has so much talent. He is a player that can influence a game massively at whatever point. He has that ‘never-say-die’ spirit; never giving up, always trying to rescue a point or three for his team. His ability to run past (and through) defenders helps him and his team show class as he can receive a well delivered (mostly from Fabregas) pass from any part of the field and make very good use of it. Defenders are scared to play against him and rightly so, seeing as he will always give them a ‘run’ for their money.

His positioning is amazing as well. He’s a goal poacher but could always be in space like a target man ready to apply that final touch. With his pace and dribbling, he can take on defenders and bring in play his fellow attacking teammates to receive the ball on goal when he has dragged majority of defenders onto himself. Costa is sure to win his team penalties and free kicks because most defenders can’t cope with him.

A beast when going in for duels (always a beast), his fights win him the ball most of the time. His composure in front of goal as well as his shooting accuracy screams world class every time he attempts to put the ball in the back of net.

How he fares against other top Number 9’s

Comparism Matrix
Costa compares favourably with the likes of Suarez, Aguero and Lewandowski this season. He’s only bested by Lewandowski in terms of Total Duels Won. But there’s still plenty of time to catch up this season.

With 119 league goals in 287 league appearances, Diego is definitely world class, same bracket with Luis Suarez. (Luis Suarez, Diego).

P.S. Chelsea legend, Bobby Tambling is tipping Diego to challenge Frank Lampard’s Chelsea goal record of 211 goals even though the Spaniard is only at 41 goals at the moment.
